Wedding services
Spoken with warmth and feeling — a uniquely designed celebration for couples who want their day exactly where, when and how they choose.
Trained for the day
Through County Celebrants Training's intensive programme, the Network includes wedding celebrants trained to create and lead ceremonies for couples who want something personal, thoughtful and true to them.
A beautiful wedding ceremony is one of the wonderful occasions a civil celebrant can create — delivered from the heart, with special meaning for the couple and their families.
Whether you are planning a formal white wedding, an affirmation or something less conventional, the aim is simple: that you really enjoy it, and that the ceremony belongs to you.
Your ceremony
A beautifully crafted service designed around your story, values and the atmosphere you want on the day.
Include religious content, keep the ceremony entirely non-religious, or find a thoughtful balance that feels honest.
Gardens, marquees, boats, castles, beaches, woodland or a favourite indoor space — with the owner’s permission.
Family and friends can read, speak, perform or share in the vows. Children can be included too.
Say whatever you wish to say. Your celebrant can advise and guide without taking over the meaning.
A formal white wedding, an affirmation, or something less conventional — no two ceremonies need look the same.
A closer look
A traditional church wedding, with its ritual and religious words, does not fit everyone's outlook or hopes for the future. Register office weddings are also governed by rules that closely control what can be said or done, and are designed around a standard framework.
A celebrant wedding or affirmation can take place almost anywhere suitable and be designed around you. It may feel as dignified as a church wedding, with the religious element replaced — or complemented — by words and music that have real meaning for the couple.
The legal marriage
Marriage law is different across the UK, and “celebrant” does not automatically mean legally authorised to marry you.
An independent celebrant-led ceremony is not currently the legal marriage. Complete the legal ceremony with a registrar or another authorised officiant. Proposed reforms are still under consultation and are not yet law.
Different systems apply. Some celebrants may be authorised to solemnise marriages, but not every independent celebrant is. Confirm the individual's authorisation and local registration requirements before relying on the ceremony as your legal marriage.
For England and Wales, see the current marriage guidance on GOV.UK. For Scotland or Northern Ireland, check with the relevant registration authority where the legal marriage will take place.
How it comes together
Share how you want the day to feel, who matters most, and what must — or must not — be included.
Your celebrant drafts the service, helps with vows and readings, and refines it with you until it feels right.
On the day, your celebrant holds the structure with warmth, so you can be present for the words and promises.
Common questions
In England and Wales, an independent celebrant-led ceremony is not currently the legal marriage. Couples usually complete the legal formalities separately with a registrar or authorised person. Rules differ in Scotland and Northern Ireland — confirm what applies where you are marrying.
Yes. A wedding celebrant can include as much religious content as you want, keep the ceremony non-religious, or blend elements that feel true to you and your families.
A celebrant ceremony can usually be held in any suitable place where you have permission — outdoors or indoors. Legal marriage ceremonies may have separate venue rules depending on where you live.
Absolutely. Many couples ask parents, children or close friends to read, speak or take an active part. Your celebrant can help everyone feel prepared.
An affirmation or commitment ceremony can mark a partnership with the same care and creativity as a wedding celebration, without following a fixed religious or register-office format. Your celebrant will help you choose the language that fits.
